Ansuya Patel

Wolves at My Door

Wolves at My Door explores the emotional aftermath of a young child’s sudden separation from her parents and relocation to India, where she is raised by her maternal grandparents. This is the journey that shapes her identity as she grapples with cultural expectations. This prize-winning collection traces trauma, resilience and self-discovery in the pursuit of freedom beyond the confines of family and tradition.

"Exile, growing up, a child's awe, a woman fears and anxieties – just some of the themes sifted through an acute sensibility in this new volume by Ansuya Patel. The poems renew and refresh how we see the everyday and the ordinary world of all of us."
~ Seamus Finnegan
Irish Playwright
"In these sensual and tender poems; amber marigolds gloat, a bride applies sindoor on the parting of her hairline, men are gods, daughters are trapped by tradition. We meet a girl unable to speak and the girl grown, a woman who would like to meet her old teacher to drink strawberry daiquiri and talk about female power. I was riveted. "
~ Lani O'Hanlon
